Experience and Ongoing Development

I have more than 16 years’ experience as a psychotherapist, including more than 10 years in the NHS where I worked as a Cognitive Behaviour  Psychotherapist and Senior Cognitive Behaviour Psychotherapist. I  gained extensive experience in working with various clients and the wide ranging difficulties they presented with.

Since leaving the NHS I have worked as a Lecturer in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy,  at the University of South Wales, UK, teaching CBT at postgraduate level.  I have also worked as a CBT therapist for private companies, providing both online and in person therapy.

I am eager to make sure that therapy is  meaningful for everyone  by developing my skills and understanding as a practitioner.  This includes topics ranging from  neurodiversity, culturally competent therapy, sexuality and gender, social  and racial inequalities.

To make sure my clients receive the best care possible I regularly attend professional development training  workshops to  enhance and extend my skills.  I also receive regular supervision from an CBT Supervisor.

Therapies I Offer

The  therapies  I offer have been extensively researched, and are proven to be effective (approved by NICE) .  They include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Trauma Focused CBT, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy.

I have also completed introductory trainings for Transactional Analysis, Schema Therapy and EMDR Parts 1 &2, Transactional Analysis 101, Internal Family Systems, Compassion Focused Therapy . I have an ongoing interest in how nutrition impacts mental health, particularly mood variability.  If relevant,  I integrate this into treatment.

My Approach

As a compassionate and non-judgmental therapist, I create a safe and inclusive space for everyone, regardless of their background.  During our sessions, we will work together to overcome the difficulties you are experiencing and help you reach your goals at a pace that is suitable for you and your needs.

Although CBT is a structured form of therapy, as a highly experienced therapist I have  seen the best outcomes with a flexible approach, that is  personalised to you.  I also adopt a holistic approach  for treatment  because your experiences and circumstances are unique to you.  This includes your health, family and other considerations.
